About Fastball
Lakehill Fastball works to provide a supportive sport environment where girls can develop their skills and enjoy the fun of playing one of the best games around. Lakehill has Fastball for Minor players 19 and under as well as for those aging out into Adult categories to play Women’s Fastball.
Softball BC determines a player's age division using birth years. Athletes play in the age division for the age they are turning in that calendar year. Players may be assessed to play up an age division, but they cannot be over age playing in a lower age division.
- Minor age divisions are U19, U17, U15, U13, U11 and U9.
- Players aged 7 and younger participate in Lakehill’s Co-Ed program. Please refer to the Baseball section for more information
- Players over the age of 19 play in the competitive Adult league
Softball BC describes the Minor Structure as: Rep ‘A’ Team will be made up of the most talented players in a category; and a Rep ‘B’ Team will be made up of the next most talented players in that same category; and a Minor ‘C’ Team will be made up of novice or recreational players in a given category. No selected teams through the process of tryouts are allowed in the Minor ‘C’ classification. Rep (A and B) Teams are a made up of outstanding players within an Association/League after tryout/selection to play together on a team for the entire season.
Lakehill Ball hosts both B and C streams in each age division. We welcome anyone at any age; new players are always welcome in any of our age divisions!
There are NO boundaries or catchment rules for fastball. Lakehill Ball is a Softball Canada / Softball BC park and welcomes players from any community or neighbourhood.
All fastball teams are “travelling” teams and they play some of their games away from Lakehill (Ambassador Park) at the home of their opponents in the South Vancouver Island league (for example, Duncan, Sooke, Western Communities, and Salt Spring Island, in addition to the greater Victoria and Saanich regions). For a list of addresses/locations for other parks, refer to the SVI Fastball website – link is below.
While the season typically runs from April to June for league play, the season is extended into July and August for teams who advance to provincial and national level competition. In addition, early winter gym sessions begin in January for everyone who would like to participate, with an expectation of attendance for B/rep level players.
Lakehill Fastball supports Coaches and meets the Softball BC requirements for education, training, and certification. Please see information from SBBC for Coaching Requirements.
Lakehill Fastball offers opportunities in the community (C) and competitive (B) streams of the Long Term Athlete Development Framework. A core principle of Lakehill Ball is the philosophy of fair play. For information on Lakehill Fastball's Core Philosophy please review this Competitive Fair Play document which is aligned with the Long Term Athlete Development framework – this model advocates multiple positions for players across age divisions and changes the technical focus as players move from U9 all the way to U19. See Softball Canada’s Long Term Player Development Guide as well as the Resource for Parents.
