Saanich, BC June 11, 2024 – Lakehill Little League, a cornerstone of the community since 1958, is proud to announce that it will host the BC Provincial Majors Baseball Championships for the first time in its history. The tournament will take place from July 13 to 21 at Ambassador Park.

Hosting a provincial event on the island presents unique challenges, but Lakehill has partnered with St. Margaret’s School, UVic, and Accent Inns to provide accommodations for visiting teams, ensuring a smooth experience for all attendees.

The tournament at Ambassador Park will feature seven teams, including the host team and the local district winners. Teams will compete in a round-robin format followed by a single-elimination playoff to crown the provincial champion. Each BC Little League with a Majors team competes at the district level to determine which league will advance to the provincial championships. “We are fortunate to enjoy strong community support through local businesses as well as the ball families (of our 389 players)” said Matt McLean, President.

Lakehill Little League is a non-profit association run entirely by dedicated volunteers. The year-long effort put into organizing this tournament has been monumental, and the tournament committee has come together to create an event that the entire Lakehill community can be proud of.

Lakehill is well-positioned to host this tournament with ample field space for play and practice. This season, the facilities have seen numerous improvements, including brand new bathrooms, a renovated clubhouse, newly installed bullpens, an upgraded sound system, and a new pitching machine. These enhancements will be a legacy from the tournament that will make Lakehill a fantastic destination park for years to come.

A highlight of the tournament will be Dave’s Dugout concession, well-known and highly praised in District 7. Dave Roger, an executive chef by day, has been running the concession for years, offering gourmet park classics from the 1st Base Burger to Fish & Chips.

“Being a part of an exciting tournament such as this is about more than just playing a few baseball games on a warm summer day,” said Angela Sawyer, past President. “It’s all about the journey and how you got there, the new friends that are made on and off the field, the feeling of pride when you are representing your ballpark. These kids will carry these stories with them for a lifetime and will be the reason why they keep playing ball, and why they coach and mentor other kids when they grow up.”
